AI website assistants and chatbots for K-12 districts
Families ask the same questions about calendars, enrollment, lunch and transportation every week. These are the main kinds of AI assistant districts use to answer them, what each one is, and where Clema fits while it is in early access.

Assistants from your platform vendor
Built by the company behind your website, communications or student systems. The main appeal is that the assistant arrives inside a platform you may already run.
Finalsite Ask AI
Finalsite's AI chatbot for schools. Ask AI answers visitor questions from the school's website and approved documents, such as public pages, PDFs, calendars and directories. Its help center says Ask AI also works on non-Finalsite websites through a JavaScript snippet.1,2
Best for: Schools and districts on Finalsite that want an assistant managed alongside their website, or schools on another platform that add it by script.
ParentSquare
An AI Assistant sold as an add-on for Smart Sites, the ParentSquare school website platform. It answers family questions from the district's published site content, including PDFs and images, and ParentSquare says it answers in over 190 languages.3
Best for: Districts on ParentSquare Smart Sites, especially those serving families in many languages.
Apptegy
Community Experience is Apptegy's district-branded hub for family questions, built into the Apptegy platform. It includes AI Search and AI Chat that answer from the district's live Apptegy CMS content, with multi-language support.4
Best for: Districts that run their website and app on Apptegy and want questions, contact forms and follow-up in one place.
Edlio
Edlio Chatbot is an AI website assistant built into the Edlio CMS. It answers from public website content such as pages, PDFs, calendars, lunch menus and staff directories, and Edlio says it does not access student records or password-protected pages.5,6
Best for: Schools on Edlio that want to switch on a chatbot from inside the CMS they already use.
PowerSchool PowerBuddy
PowerBuddy for Community is PowerSchool's AI assistant for district websites, school sites, parent portals and other district platforms. Content can be uploaded or gathered by website crawling, including Word documents, text files and PDFs.7,8
Best for: Districts invested in PowerSchool products that want an assistant from the same vendor.
Standalone website chatbots
Sold on their own rather than as part of a website platform. Each takes a different view on how much sits around the chat: written answers, tickets, phone or text.
AskK12
An AI chatbot for school district websites, from CongratsGrad, LLC. It reads the district website, puts answers the district writes first, and links each answer back to its source page.9,10
Best for: Districts that want a focused website chatbot with staff-written answers for the topics that matter most.
App Maisters SchoolAssist
SchoolAssist is App Maisters' AI support platform for K-12 districts. It answers from PDFs, URLs and documents with cited answers, and adds routing to human operators, tickets, and web, SMS, email and voice channels.11
Best for: Districts that want family questions, IT help and staff onboarding handled by department-specific assistants.
District service desks with AI chat
A chatbot as the front door to a service desk. Questions the bot cannot settle become tickets that staff work through to resolution.
Onflo
Onflo's AI chatbot is part of its district service platform. It answers from webpages, calendars and uploaded files with citations, creates a ticket for unresolved questions, and hands off to staff in the unified service desk.12
Best for: Districts that want every family question tracked as a ticket, with phone and staff handoff on the same platform.
Website-grounded assistants for your existing site
Assistants that start from the site you already have. They read your public pages and documents and answer from them, on whatever platform your site runs. Some platform assistants above, such as Finalsite Ask AI, can also be added to other sites by script.
Clema
Early accessClema's website assistant, in early access, crawls a district's public pages and documents, pulls out contacts, dated events and key facts, links each answer to the page it came from, and says so when the site does not cover a question. It is built in the engine and proven on one U.S. K-12 district. Ticketing, live handoff and answers in other languages are not available yet.
Best for: Districts whose first need is cited answers from the site they already have, and who are open to shaping an early-access product with team-run setup.
Common questions
Roughly four. Website and communications platforms such as Finalsite, ParentSquare, Apptegy and Edlio offer an assistant inside their own platform, and PowerSchool offers PowerBuddy for Community. Standalone chatbots such as AskK12 and SchoolAssist are sold on their own. Service desks such as Onflo pair a chatbot with ticketing and staff handoff. Website-grounded assistants such as Clema, in early access, start from the site you already have.
Not necessarily. Several platform assistants are tied to their own platform: ParentSquare sells its AI Assistant as an add-on for Smart Sites, and Edlio describes its chatbot as built into the Edlio CMS. Finalsite's help center says Ask AI works on non-Finalsite websites through a script. Standalone chatbots and website-grounded assistants are added to a site rather than sold with one. Check each vendor's pages for the website platforms it supports.
Ask what it answers from and how often that is refreshed, whether each answer links to its source, what it says when the site does not cover a question, which languages it supports, how a question reaches a staff member, what it does with student data, and which AI providers it uses.
In several places. ParentSquare and Apptegy describe answers in many languages, which Clema does not offer yet. Onflo and SchoolAssist turn unresolved questions into tickets and hand off to staff, which Clema does not do yet. Platform assistants from ParentSquare, Apptegy and Edlio sit inside a website platform a district may already run, with settings managed there, and Finalsite Ask AI runs on Finalsite sites or, by script, on other sites.
It is in early access. The engine has been built and proven on one U.S. K-12 district site. Setup is run by the Clema team today, and self-serve setup is in development. Ticketing, live handoff and multilingual answers are not available yet. There is no public pricing, so the way to start is a conversation with the team.
No. The assistant answers from a district's public website and documents and has no access to student records. It follows a FERPA-aware design; it holds no certification for this product. Clema uses OpenAI models to read content and write answers.
