Clema vs Apptegy for school and district websites
Apptegy Community Experience is a live, all-in-one family support hub inside the Apptegy platform. Clema is an early-access assistant that reads your public site and documents and cites a source under every factual answer. Here is where each one stands today.
The short version
If your district already runs its website on Apptegy and wants search, chat, a contact form and a staff task queue in one place, Apptegy Community Experience is the more complete product today: it is generally available, it routes requests to the right team, it supports multilingual conversations and it reports what families ask. Clema is narrower and earlier. It reads your public pages, PDFs and calendars, pulls out dates and contacts, links the source page under every factual answer and says so when your site does not cover a question. The engine has been built and tested on one U.S. K-12 district's public website, including its school sites; the widget is demo-grade. Sending a request to the right office is in development; it has no task queue, live handoff or languages other than English yet.

What Apptegy Community Experience is
Apptegy sells an all-in-one K-12 communications platform: website CMS, district app, alerts and messaging. Community Experience is its AI search, AI chat, contact form, task management and analytics hub, built into the Apptegy platform and generally available since March 3, 2026.3,1,2
Clema is an early-access website assistant: it reads your public site and answers visitors with a link to the page behind each answer.

Where Clema differs
A source under every factual answer
Every factual answer links the page or document it came from, so a parent can check the bus time or deadline themselves. Apptegy's public pages do not say whether its answers show source links; ask them in a demo.
Says so when your site is silent
If your pages do not cover a question, Clema says that and points to a contact when your site lists one, instead of guessing.
Reads documents and calendars
PDFs, Office files and calendar files are read alongside your pages, and dates, deadlines and contacts are pulled out as facts. Scanned PDFs are not readable yet.
Not tied to a website CMS
Clema is added with a script embed rather than being part of a CMS, so it is meant for districts that are not moving their website. That embed is demo-grade today.
Public pages only
Clema reads what your site already publishes. It has no SIS connection and no access to student records.
Which one fits
Choose Apptegy if
- Your district website already runs on Apptegy and you want the assistant inside the same platform.
- You need a contact form, routing and a staff task queue now, not later.
- Families need answers in languages other than English today.
- You want analytics on family questions from day one.
- Procurement requires a vendor with a published SOC 2 report and student privacy certifications.
Choose Clema if
- You want a source link shown under every factual answer by default, so families and staff can check it.
- Your key information lives in PDFs and calendars and you want those dates and contacts answered directly.
- You are not planning to move your website to a new CMS.
- You are comfortable joining an early-access product, setting it up with our team and reviewing sample answers from your own site first.
Using both
Apptegy's pages we read describe Community Experience inside the Apptegy platform, and Clema is not built to plug into it. Most districts would pick one assistant per website rather than run two chat windows.
Clema vs Apptegy: common questions
Neither publishes a price. Apptegy offers an ROI calculator and a demo request on its Community Experience page. Clema has not published pricing for the website assistant; during early access we agree scope and terms with each district directly.
We have not tested Apptegy, so we cannot compare accuracy. Apptegy reports that 93% of beta questions were resolved. Clema's results come from our own tests on one district, graded by an AI judge, which is not an independent audit. Answers from either can be wrong, which is why Clema links the source under every factual answer.
Apptegy integrates with over 50 SIS vendors, including PowerSchool and Infinite Campus; its pages do not say whether Community Experience uses that data. Clema reads public pages only and has no SIS connection. No CRM connection.
Apptegy lists SOC 2 Type 2, iKeepSafe, COPPA Safe Harbor and other privacy certifications on its trust page, and says it does not use personal information to train general-purpose AI models. Clema is designed with FERPA in mind: it reads only public pages and has no access to student records. It uses OpenAI models, and we do not hold a FERPA certification or SOC 2 report for this product.
Apptegy describes setup as configuring search and chat, building forms and routing, and assigning task ownership. Clema is set up with our team: we check how your site is built, you review sample answers from your own pages, and only then is anything installed. Self-serve setup is in development.
Clema is added with a script embed, and today that embed is demo-grade. We have not tested it on an Apptegy site, so talk to us first and we will check how your site is built before promising anything.
Not yet. Clema answers in English today, and we will not list a language until it works. Apptegy says its chat supports multilingual conversations.
