How federal data releases work
Each agency publishes on its own cycle. Clema tracks every calendar and loads new files as they are released.
IPEDS: three cycles a year
NCES collects in fall (institutional characteristics, completions, 12-month enrollment), winter (admissions, graduation rates, financial aid, outcome measures, cost), and spring (fall enrollment, finance, human resources, academic libraries). Each window becomes public as provisional data first, then as a final release about a year later. See the full schedule.
Federal Student Aid: quarterly
Pell Grant and Direct Loan volume reports post every quarter on the FSA Data Center, with the full award-year picture completing after year end. Official Cohort Default Rates follow a separate annual cycle each September.
OPE surveys: annual
Campus Safety (Clery Act) and Equity in Athletics collections run each fall, with EADA published by October 15. DAPIP accreditation records are different: they update continuously as accrediting agencies take action.
Scorecard, Census & BLS: periodic
The College Scorecard has no fixed schedule; the Department ships merged updates through the year. Census PSEO adds partner states in periodic version releases, and BLS publishes OEWS wages each spring.

Each source is kept on its latest federal release or refreshed on a schedule aligned to the next one. IPEDS is on the Fall 2025–26 provisional release (published July 28, 2026) covering data years 2014 to 2025, the College Scorecard is on the June 10, 2026 release, Cohort Default Rates are the FY 2022 official rates, and Pell and loan volume run through March 31, 2026. This page lists the exact release for every source.
NCES publishes each IPEDS collection twice. Provisional data comes first, about nine months after the collection closes: fully edited, imputed, public, and citable, and it is what NCES itself surfaces in College Navigator. The final release follows roughly a year later, once institutions have had their prior-year revision window. Clema carries the Fall 2025–26 provisional release, the most recent IPEDS data available.
The 2012–13 through 2023–24 collections are final: institutions have finished revising them and the numbers will not change. The 2024–25 collection (fall, winter, and spring) and the Fall 2025–26 collection are provisional, so a small number of figures may still shift. The release schedule on this page lists every collection with its public release date and stage.
