Clema vs ParentSquare for school and district websites
Both answer family questions from what a district publishes. ParentSquare's AI Assistant runs on its own Smart Sites websites. Clema's website assistant is in early access and is added to the site you already have. Here is how they differ today.
The short version
ParentSquare is a full family communication platform, and its AI Assistant answers questions on Smart Sites websites in 190+ languages, with nightly re-crawls, analytics on what families ask and source links, according to its own pages. Its FAQ says the assistant does not currently work on websites built on other platforms. Clema is an early-access website assistant you add to your current site with a script. Its engine reads pages, PDFs and calendars, pulls out dates and contacts, cites the page behind each answer and says when the site does not cover a question, and it has been proven on one U.S. K-12 district. It answers in English and sends no messages. Sending a request to the right office is in development; family inquiry capture and live handoff are not available yet. If your district is on Smart Sites, or wants one vendor for messaging and websites, ParentSquare is the natural fit. If your website runs on another platform and you are comfortable with early access, talk to Clema.

What ParentSquare is
ParentSquare is a K-12 family engagement platform for communication, websites, attendance and payments. Its AI Assistant is an add-on for Smart Sites, the ParentSquare school website platform, and answers family questions from the district's published site content.3,1,4
Clema is an early-access website assistant: it reads your public site and answers visitors with a link to the page behind each answer.
At a glance
Each ParentSquare cell links to the public page it came from. Each Clema cell shows where that feature stands today.

Where Clema differs
Works on the website you already have
Clema is added to your current site with a script, so there is no move to a new website platform. The widget is demo-grade during early access.
Dates and contacts as facts
Clema pulls out dates, deadlines, hours, requirements and contacts, each tied to the page it came from, so an answer about a deadline carries its source.
School and district sites together
One question can search a school site and its district site, so families do not need to know which site holds the answer.
Which one fits
Choose ParentSquare if
- Your district already uses ParentSquare and Smart Sites, or plans to move its website there.
- Families need answers in many languages today.
- You want one vendor for messaging, alerts, forms, websites and phone.
- Procurement needs a vendor that states SOC 2 Type 2 and iKeepSafe certification now.
- You need analytics and nightly refresh running from day one.
Choose Clema if
- Your website runs on another platform, you do not want to move it, and you are open to us checking how it is built.
- Family questions often turn on dates, deadlines and who to call, and you want each answer linked to its page.
- You want to review sample answers from your own pages with our team before anything goes live.
- English answers work for now, and you are comfortable with early access.
Using both
They do different jobs. ParentSquare reaches families with messages, alerts and forms; Clema answers questions on a website. A district that keeps ParentSquare for communication but runs its website on another platform falls outside what ParentSquare's FAQ says its AI Assistant supports today, and that is the case Clema is built for, after we check your site first. Clema does not replace messaging, alerts or forms.
Clema vs ParentSquare: common questions
ParentSquare says its AI Assistant is an add-on for Smart Sites and that your rep walks you through pricing. Its FAQ says the platform is typically a district-wide annual fee based on enrollment, lists websites as an option added on top, and its packages page lists no prices. Clema has not published pricing for the website assistant either. During early access we agree scope and terms with each district directly.
We did not find accuracy figures on the ParentSquare pages we read. Its FAQ says the assistant stays grounded in your published content and tells families when it does not have the information. Clema has been tested on one live U.S. K-12 district with a question set our team wrote, graded by an AI judge. That is our own test, not an independent audit. Clema links the source page or PDF under every factual answer so families can check it, tested on one district, and says so when your site does not cover a question. Mistakes can still happen, so the source link matters.
The ParentSquare platform lists SIS integrations, and its FAQ names PowerSchool, Aeries, Skyward and others. Its AI Assistant pages say it answers from what is published on your site and do not say it uses SIS data. Clema has no SIS or CRM connection. It reads your public pages and documents and has no access to student records.
ParentSquare's security page states SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and iKeepSafe certification covering FERPA, COPPA and California student privacy laws, with US-based hosting on AWS. Its AI Principles say school and family data is not used to train AI models. Clema is designed with FERPA in mind and reads public pages only, but we do not hold a FERPA certification or SOC 2 report for this product. Clema uses OpenAI models to process page text, and we go through our current data handling terms with you before anything is installed.
ParentSquare's FAQ says there is nothing your IT team needs to do and the first scan takes a couple of hours, on a Smart Sites website. If you are not on Smart Sites yet, ParentSquare says a dedicated specialist handles setup and content migration. With Clema, our team checks how your site is built first, you review sample answers from your own pages, and then you add a script to your current site. Self-serve setup is in development.
We have not run Clema on a Smart Sites website, so we would check your site before promising anything. Clema can sit alongside ParentSquare messaging, because it works on the website and does not send messages. Any change to your ParentSquare add-ons is a matter for your ParentSquare contract.
Not yet. Clema answers in English today, and other languages are not available. ParentSquare says its AI Assistant answers in 190+ languages, so if multilingual answers are a must right now, it is ahead on that point.
