Clema vs Finalsite Ask AI for school and district websites
Both answer family questions from what a school publishes, and both can be added to a website with a script. Finalsite Ask AI is a shipping product with a full admin console. Clema's website assistant is in early access. Here is how they differ today.
The short version
Finalsite Ask AI is a mature, shipping assistant. Its own pages describe answers in 70+ languages, scheduled re-scans, priority answers, fallback contacts, chat logs with CSV export, analytics and a content-gap analysis, and its help center says it works on non-Finalsite websites as well as Finalsite ones. It also comes from a vendor that sells websites, communications and enrollment management, and it offers a 30-day free trial. Clema is an early-access website assistant proven on one U.S. K-12 district. Its engine reads pages, PDFs, Office files and calendars, pulls out dates, deadlines and contacts as facts tied to their page, links the source under every factual answer and says when the site does not cover a question. It answers in English. Analytics and a page review screen are in development; admin-written answers, lead capture and live handoff are not available yet. If you need a full-featured assistant running across many languages now, Finalsite is ahead. If you want answers built around dated facts tied to their pages, and you are comfortable working with an early-access team, talk to Clema.

What Finalsite Ask AI is

Clema is an early-access website assistant: it reads your public site and answers visitors with a link to the page behind each answer.

Where Clema differs
Dates and contacts as facts
Clema pulls out dates, deadlines, hours, requirements and contacts, each tied to the page it came from, so an answer about a deadline carries its source. We did not find this described on Finalsite's public pages.
A source link by default, and a plain "not covered"
Every factual Clema answer links the page or PDF it came from by default, so a family can check it (tested on one district). If the site does not cover the question, Clema says so rather than guessing.
Setup that starts with your own pages
Our team checks how your site is built and shows you sample answers from your own pages before anything goes on your site. This is a hands-on early-access process; self-serve setup is in development.
Which one fits
Choose Finalsite if
- Your school already runs its website on Finalsite, or you want websites, communications and enrollment from one vendor.
- Families need answers in many languages today.
- You want admin tools, analytics and chat logs running from day one.
- You want a 30-day free trial on your own website before you buy.
- You want the assistant inside a mobile app or an enrollment parent portal.
Choose Clema if
- Family questions often turn on dates, deadlines and who to call, and you want each answer linked to its page.
- You want to review sample answers from your own pages with our team before anything goes live.
- English answers work for now, and you are comfortable with early access.
Using both
You would normally pick one assistant for a website, since two chat widgets on one page would confuse families. Clema does not replace Finalsite's websites, communications or enrollment tools, so a school that keeps those could still evaluate Clema as its website assistant. Any change to Finalsite add-ons is a matter for your Finalsite contract.
Clema vs Finalsite: common questions
Finalsite does not list a price for Ask AI on its product or trial pages. Its help center calls Ask AI a paid add-on and points to Finalsite Support or your Client Success Manager for pricing, and it offers a 30-day free trial. Clema has not published pricing for the website assistant either. During early access we agree scope and terms with each school or district directly.
Finalsite says Ask AI is grounded in your approved sources to reduce made-up answers, and it lets you add priority answers and fallback contacts. We did not find independent accuracy figures on its pages. Clema has been tested on one live U.S. K-12 district with a question set our team wrote, graded by an AI judge. That is our own test, not an independent audit. Clema links the source under every factual answer and says so when your site does not cover a question. Mistakes can still happen with either one, which is why the source link matters.
Finalsite sells its own enrollment management system, and Ask AI can run inside its Enrollment Parent Portal, but the help center says Ask AI answers only from approved knowledge sources and cannot read individual student records or account data. We did not find a CRM or SIS connection for Ask AI on its public pages. Clema has no CRM or SIS connection. It reads your public pages and documents only.
Finalsite's security page describes hosting on Google Cloud and AWS, encryption in transit and at rest and GDPR adherence, with more detail in a Trust Center available on request. Its help center says Ask AI uses Google Gemini 2.5 Flash and keeps chat data in browser session storage rather than cookies. Clema is designed with FERPA in mind and reads public pages only, but we do not hold a FERPA certification or SOC 2 report for this product. Clema uses OpenAI models to process page text, and we go through our current data handling terms with you before anything is installed.
Finalsite says Support enables Ask AI and handles the initial deployment configuration, its implementation team helps build your knowledge base, and the code is already in place on Finalsite sites; on a non-Finalsite site you paste a JavaScript snippet into the page head. Indexing can take several hours on a large site. With Clema, our team checks how your site is built first, you review sample answers from your own pages, and then you add a script to your site. Self-serve setup is in development.
Clema reads your public website directly, so it does not need anything exported from Ask AI. Priority answers your team wrote in Ask AI would need to live on your website for Clema to use them, because Clema does not support admin-written answers yet. We would check your site and run sample answers before you decide. Any change to your Finalsite add-ons is a matter for your Finalsite contract.
Not yet. Clema answers in English today. Finalsite says Ask AI supports the 70+ languages Google Gemini offers, so if multilingual answers are a must right now, Finalsite is ahead on that point.
