Clema vs Ivy & Ocelot for admissions websites
A plain comparison for admissions and enrollment teams: what each product does today, where Ivy & Ocelot is ahead, and where Clema differs.
The short version
Ivy & Ocelot is an established, multichannel student engagement platform: AI chat, texting, live staff chat and CRM and SIS integrations, and Gravyty reports a large installed base. Clema is an early-access website assistant that reads your public site and documents and links each answer to the page behind it. Lead capture and CRM delivery are in development; live handoff and texting are not available yet, and it has no college customers. If you need live chat, texting or CRM-connected answers today, Ivy & Ocelot is ahead. If your first goal is cited answers drawn from the website you already maintain, and you are open to early access, Clema is worth a conversation.

Where Clema differs
Starts from the website you already maintain
Clema builds its knowledge from your public pages and documents. Ivy & Ocelot syncs verified institutional sources daily and offers 65+ content packs; ask in a demo how each handles your own site.
A source link on each answer
Every answer points to the page or document it came from, so an applicant or a counselor can check the original. Gravyty describes its answers as traceable; ask to see how sources are shown to visitors.
Says when your site does not cover it
Clema is built to say so when your site does not cover a question, rather than guess. It also compares dates it finds with today’s date, so it can flag whether a deadline is upcoming or past. Tested on one K-12 district site.
Public pages, no student records
The assistant reads your public website and nothing behind a login. It uses OpenAI models, and we say so up front. We design with FERPA in mind and do not claim certifications for this product.
Which one fits
Choose Ivy & Ocelot if
- You need chat, texting, WhatsApp, phone and email handled in one platform today.
- Your team wants live staff chat that takes over from the AI assistant.
- Proactive texting campaigns to applicants and admitted students are part of your yield plan.
- You want answers personalized from Slate, Salesforce, Banner or other campus systems.
- Procurement requires a vendor that lists SOC 2 and similar standards.
- You need multilingual replies now.
Choose Clema if
- Your first goal is cited answers from your own website about programs, deadlines and costs.
- You want each answer to link to the page behind it.
- You prefer a public-pages assistant with no access to student records.
- You are open to early access and to working with our team on setup and refresh timing.
- You want to review sample answers from your own site before anything is installed.
Clema vs Ivy & Ocelot: common questions
Neither publishes prices. Ivy & Ocelot’s pages offer a demo and a sales contact. During early access, Clema agrees scope and terms with each college directly.
We have not run a side by side test, so we cannot say. Gravyty claims "zero hallucinations" from verified content. Clema answers from your crawled pages, links each answer to its source and is built to say so when your site does not cover a question. Its testing so far is on one K-12 district site, not a college. The fairest check is to ask both for answers to your own top 20 applicant questions.
Ivy & Ocelot names Salesforce, Slate and Raiser’s Edge NXT among its CRMs, and Ellucian Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft and Jenzabar among SIS platforms. Clema does not connect to a CRM yet; CRM delivery is in development. Clema does not connect to an SIS.
Ivy & Ocelot lists SOC 2, FERPA, HIPAA, GDPR, TX-RAMP and StateRAMP compliance and can connect to SIS and CRM systems to personalize answers for students. Clema’s website assistant takes a different approach: it reads only your public site and has no access to student records. It is designed with FERPA in mind, holds no certification for this product, and uses OpenAI models, which we disclose.
Gravyty describes a dedicated onboarding specialist, staff training and a no-code agent builder. With Clema, our team reads your site with you, you review sample answers from your own pages, and then a short script is added to your site. Self-serve setup is in development.
Clema does not replace texting, live chat or campaigns, so it is not a drop-in swap if your team relies on those. If your main concern is website answers, we can build a Clema assistant on your public pages and you can compare its answers with what you have today before deciding anything.
